Leeds United legend Eddie Gray has asked the Whites players to take braver decisions in the final third in order to lift the club's form.

Despite dominating possession against Nottingham Forest last Saturday, Leeds created very few opportunities at Elland Road and the visitors nicked all three points to leave the home fans disappointed.

Steve Evans has seen his side’s form take a turn for the worse in the last month or so, and they have won just once in their last eight Championship fixtures, leaving them languishing in 16th in the league table on 36 points.

Leeds have a tough few days ahead of them with Middlesbrough visiting Elland Road on Monday night and then they travel to Watford a week from today for their fifth round FA Cup clash.

And Gray believes that in order to turn their fortunes around the Leeds’ players need to show more bravery on the ball in the final third.

The Leeds legend indicated that some of the players are taking the easier option, and insisted that the attacking players need to do their job in the final third in order to get the Whites back on track.

The former Leeds boss said on LUTV: “Their decision making has to be better.

“The players in the last third have to show more courage. What I mean by that is go and try things or attempt to try things. Go and take the defenders on, have a shot at the target.

“The easiest thing to do in football is when things are not going well at home, we pass the buck. Get the ball and knock it down ten yards to somebody else. I can go do that now, pass the ball ten yards.

“You are in the team to do a job, you have got to try and do that job. Play to the best of your individual ability for the benefit of the side.”

Leeds were thrashed by Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium earlier this season, but Boro have not won at Elland Road in their last three visits.
