Chris Sutton thinks that Louis van Gaal will leave Manchester United in the summer and his successor will need to work his way through £150m to try to get the club back into the Champions League.

The pressure on Van Gaal intensified further on Saturday when his side lost 2-1 away at relegation battlers Sunderland.

At present the Red Devils are six points off the top four with just 12 matches left to play – but that could be seven points following tomorrow's games.

Van Gaal himself has admitted that qualifying for the Champions League through their Premier League placing will be tough for Manchester United and the Dutchman is increasingly being tipped for the chop.

For Sutton, Van Gaal will go and his replacement will be given cash to spend to get the club back into the Champions League.

"I think Van Gaal will go, a new man will come in and they will have to spend another £150m if they want to get in the Champions League next year because it doesn't look like they will make it", Sutton said on the BBC's Final Score programme.

"They have 12 games left. They will probably have to win ten and they have been too inconsistent to see them doing that", the former striker added.

Next up for the Red Devils is a trip to Denmark to play FC Midtylland in the Europa League.
