Ex-Fiorentina and Italy striker Roberto Pruzzo has insisted that Tottenham Hotspur muscled his former team out of the Europa League.

The north Londoners scored a comfortable 3-0 win over Fiorentina in the second leg last night, to clinch their Europa League round of 32 tie with a 4-1 aggregate scoreline.

Fiorentina were aware that they needed a goal to compete at White Hart Lane as Spurs had already scored in Italy, but once Ryan Mason gave them the lead in first half, the home side always looked like winning the tie.

Pruzzo conceded that Tottenham were always going to be the stronger team, but once they took the lead they looked in cruise control and Fiorentina were just not equipped to compete physically with the north Londoners.

The 60-year-old told Italian radio station Radio Radio: “I predicted this flop.

“Tottenham are stronger, and once in the lead Spurs put La Viola in a position where they could do no harm.

“Fiorentina could not withstand the physicality of the London team.”

Fiorentina are third in the Serie A table, and will look to pick themselves up for their big league clash against title contenders Napoli on Monday night at the Artemio Franchi.
