Leeds United defensive midfielder Liam Bridcutt has expressed his delight after being picked for the Scotland national team.

The 26-year-old, who is currently on a loan deal at Leeds from Sunderland until the end of the season, is in line to feature against Denmark in a friendly clash at Hampden on 29th March.

Bridcutt has so far earned one senior cap for Scotland when Gordon Strachan picked him for a World Cup qualifier against Serbia in March 2013, with the former Brighton & Hove Albion player struggling with injuries since then.

However, the defensive enforcer has managed to make 20 appearances in all competitions for Leeds, and Bridcutt thinks the run of games at the Championship club proved that he is now fully fit and ready to represent his nation.

“I’m very happy”, he said on LUTV.

“Obviously I’ve had previous call-ups before. Every time I seemed to be close to getting back to full fitness, a new injury happened.

“So it has been good, I’ve had good run of games here and it showed that I am back to full fitness and ready to go.”

Bridcutt, whose present contract with Leeds runs until the summer of 2017, is a product of Chelsea’s youth set-up, although he failed to break into the Blues’ first team.
