West Ham United appear to have won the race for the signature of Borussia Monchengladbach defensive midfielder Havard Nordtveit.

Gladbach have been working hard to convince the Norwegian to put pen to paper on a new deal at Borussia-Park, with his current contract due to expire in the summer.

But the Bundesliga club have been forced to admit failure in their attempts to keep Nordtveit, with the Premier League set to be his destination.

Indeed, according to German magazine Kicker, Nordtveit has given the green light to a move to West Ham, with the only thing lacking being the official confirmation of the move.

Nordtveit, who spent time at Arsenal earlier in his career, has made no secret of his desire to play in the Premier League.

At Gladbach's winter training camp in Turkey, Nordtveit admitted: "For us Scandinavians, the Premier League is always a big deal."

Nordtveit will link up with a club set to move into their brand new ground, the Olympic Stadium, in the summer, and one currently on course to qualify for Europe due to their lofty Premier League placing under Slaven Bilic.
