Leeds United legend Peter Lorimer feels that some of the Whites players are not putting in maximum effort because they believe the season is more or less over.

Steve Evans and his Leeds players have received flak for their lacklustre performance in their 4-1 defeat to Huddersfield last weekend, which halted their three-game winning run in the league.

While Evans is expected to remain Leeds manager until at least the end of the season, Lorimer feels it is the players who are the problem, as he believes some of them are not taking risks because they think the season is more or less over for the Whites.

He also slammed the players for failing to deal with the pressure of a large crowd last weekend, and has advised the club to keep such things in mind when they are trying to sign fresh faces during the summer transfer window.

The Leeds legend wrote in his column for the Yorkshire Evening Post: “In my opinion, a lot of our players look like they’re doing just enough.

"They look like players who realise the season is basically over, that the summer could bring major changes at Elland Road and that this might not be the time to take risks.

“To an extent I can understand that because they’ve all got families and commitments, they’ve all got to think about their futures, but it’s unacceptable in front of 30,000 to go out there and fail to put a show on.

“You have to question whether some of these players are up to the pressure of that situation. Maybe it’s a lesson that has to be learned as we head towards the summer transfer window.”

Evans has been planning to overhaul his squad in the summer, and it remains to be seen whether he is given the opportunity to do once the season ends.
