Liam Bridcutt has admitted that his tackle on Erik Sviatchenko was a heavy one during Scotland’s 1-0 win over Denmark in a friendly on Tuesday night, but he insisted that he had every right to go for the ball.

The 26-year-old Leeds United midfielder, who was named by Scotland boss Gordon Strachan in his squad for the clash with Denmark, was introduced as a second half substitute at Hampden.

Shortly after coming on, Bridcutt lunged into a strong tackle on Sviatchenko which left the Celtic defender reeling on the ground.

Even though Bridcutt received a yellow card for the tackle, the Sunderland loanee drew criticism from the Denmark camp, including Sviatchenko himself.

However, Bridcutt explained that it is his playing style to go in for hard challenges if the ball is to be won.

"It was a heavy tackle, but the ball was there to be won", he told Leeds’ official site.

"Everyone who knows me knows I go in hard and fair.

“I go in 100 per cent with tackles and I go in fair. That’s the player I am.”

Bridcutt, who initially joined Leeds from Sunderland on a short-term loan deal in November before extending his stay at Elland Road for the rest of the season in January, earned his second senior Scotland cap against the Danes.
