Steve Evans has insisted that Bailey Peacock-Farrell is ready to make his Leeds United first team debut against Queens Park Rangers in a Championship game on Tuesday evening.

The Whites were beaten 2-1 by Rotherham United at the weekend after the Millers converted a late penalty, following Marco Silvestri’s foul on Lee Frecklington.

Silvestri was sent off for it, but as Leeds had already used their three substitutes, Peacock-Farrell was unable to come on from the bench.

However, the 19-year-old, who has been serving as Silvestri’s deputy since summer signing Ross Turnbull picked up an injury in a behind closed doors friendly fixture in October and Charlie Horton was released from his contract due to personal reasons, is now set to make his senior Leeds debut when QPR visit Elland Road.

And Evans admitted that Peacock-Farrell’s debut is coming earlier than Leeds planned.

“As I sit here now it’s either Bailey or me and I don’t fill the goal as much as I used to”, he was quoted as saying by the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“He’s a young man who was going to make his debut this season anyway so it comes earlier than planned for us.

“The supporters will see we’ve got a fine young goalkeeper trying to get in the team.

“He’s ready, he’s a confident young man, his distribution’s good and his handling’s good.

"He’s got all the attributes.

"It’s not the circumstances we would like but he would have played between now and the end of the season anyway.”

Peacock-Farrell joined the Whites’ academy from Middlesbrough aged 16 years old.
