West Ham co-chairman David Gold has insisted that the club will no longer let go of their star players on the cheap.

The Hammers, who were previously guilty of selling off their star performers such as Rio Ferdinand and Joe Cole amongst others, have already started taking firmer steps regarding player sales.

Attacking midfielder Dimitri Payet was the subject big money of interest from China earlier in the year, but West Ham acted quickly and extended the Frenchman’s contract until 2021.

And in reply to a fan message which asked if West Ham will sell Payet, who has scored 12 goals and provided 11 assists in 31 appearances in all competitions since joining the club from Marseille in the summer, to Arsenal, Gold replied in the negative.

“The days of buying our best players on the cheap are over”, Gold tweeted.
