Mark Warburton has explained that Rangers are wary of a cup upset, ahead of their Challenge Cup final with Peterhead on Sunday at Hampden Park.

Rangers secured the Scottish Championship on Tuesday by beating Dumbarton 1-0, thereby earning promotion back to the top flight.

The Gers will now look to wrap up their second trophy of the season by beating Peterhead at Hampden, with the Ibrox outfit set to face Celtic in a Scottish Cup semi-final meeting at the same ground on 17th April.

And Warburton admitted that although Rangers are favourites to lift the Challenge Cup, he was quick to warn his side about the threats posed by the Scottish League One club.

“It is a trophy, a trophy for Rangers and we haven’t won this particular competition before and we never going into any competition other than looking to win it”, he told the club’s official site.

“What Rangers should have done is irrelevant, it is about now and about the current Rangers squad and developing a winning mentality.

“We have to get that right and words like consistency are very important to us.

“It’s a cup final at the end of the day and we spoke about it at length this morning with the players and did our analysis.

“You might say we are the overwhelming favourites but cup upsets happen and we have to recognise the threat that they pose.”

Rangers have been a consistent team in the present campaign, with Warburton’s side losing just four games in all competitions.

The Scottish giants beat Premiership outfits Kilmarnock and Dundee on their way to reaching the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup.
