Former Rangers boss Graeme Souness believes that Celtic will go into Sunday's Scottish Cup semi-final as clear favourites to beat his old club.

Old rivalries will be resumed when the two sides lock horns at Hampden on Sunday in order to decide who progresses through to the final.

Souness, who was at the helm at Ibrox between 1986 and 1991 and has vast experience of the Old Firm derby, insists that his former club face a stiff task to beat the Bhoys.

Given the fact that the Hoops play in a higher league against bigger and better players means that they will be in an advantageous position on the day, Souness believes.

However, the Gers have been in good form under manager Mark Warburton, a fact that Souness believes will work for them, while he desperately wants to see Rangers make a game of the semi-final.

"Celtic obviously start as big favourites", Souness was quoted as saying by STV.

"They're playing in the bigger league against better players every week.

"The challenge for Rangers is to turn up and make a game of it. They didn't last year.

"I'm not saying they can't win the game because it is a derby but Celtic must start as the outstanding favourites. I want Rangers to do themselves justice.

"I would hope [it would be closer]. Rangers are better than they were last year. Are Celtic better than they were last year? I'm not sure.

"I don't think Rangers are going to turn up and have an easy game."
