Hibernian boss Alan Stubbs says he always knew his side could hurt Rangers after they beat the Gers 3-2 this evening.

Rangers started well at Easter Road and quickly enjoyed the better of the possession, pushing Hibernian back into their own half.

But the game changed in the fifth minute when sloppy defending from a throw-in allowed Hibernian's Jason Cummings to get in between the Rangers defence and make no mistake.

Rangers looked to hit back and had a penalty appeal waved away in the ninth minute, as they claimed handball.

And Hibernian took full advantage of the decision going their way by making it 2-0 in the 19th minute, as Wes Foderingham made a mess of an Anthony Stokes cross.

Rangers had hope before half time however, as Jason Holt pulled one back for the visitors in the 41st minute, a ball coming out from the woodwork being helped in by the midfielder.

Hibernian looked to sniff out any comeback and made it 3-1 in the 58th minute when Niklas Gunnarsson smashed the ball into the back of the net after a corner was not properly cleared.

Rangers were not done though and pulled one back in the 85th minute, Barrie McKay unleashing a powerful shot from 25 yards out which flew into the back of the net.

The Gers could not find another goal though and it ended 3-2 to Hibs.

And for Hibernian boss Stubbs, the fact that his side could hurt Rangers was never in doubt.

He told BBC Radio Scotland: "I thought we played well and scored goals at good times.

"It was always going to be a close game.

"Rangers have won two at home and we've won two [in the Championship]", Stubbs continued.

"I'm not even thinking about the cup final.

"We knew if we played with a good shape that we have players that can hurt them."
