Arsenal legend Alan Smith feels that the Gunners would be much harder to beat if they had Diego Simeone in charge.

The Gunners, under long-serving boss Arsene Wenger, beat West Brom 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium this evening, but it is too little too late for their title hopes, while even rivals Tottenham Hotspur may finish above them this season.

Despite the win, banners were still held up by some in the Arsenal crowd calling for Wenger to end his 20-year stay at the club.

Smith does feel more can be squeezed out of the current group than Wenger is managing and explained he is sure under Atletico Madrid boss Simeone teams would struggle to beat the Gunners.

The former Arsenal striker said on Sky Sports 1 after the win over West Brom: "I maintain more could be got from that current group.

"Diego Simeone, they would be harder to beat with him at the helm, just because of the steel he brings to it.

"Arsene Wenger is a much different manager", Smith added.

Wenger appears keen to remain at Arsenal, while there is no indication Simeone is thinking of leaving the Vicente Calderon.

The Gunners though are now only playing to ensure a top four finish – they currently sit third – and will end the season without silverware.
