Scott Brown has explained that although he rates Neil Lennon, he is unwilling to influence the Celtic board’s decision in appointing the club’s new manager in the summer.

It was announced last week that current Hoops boss Ronny Deila will step down from his post after the end of the season.

As a result, several managers such as David Moyes, Owen Coyle, Brendan Rodgers, Steve Evans and Lennon have been mooted as a possible successor for Deila.

Lennon, who is a former Celtic player and manager, also insisted that he is interested in returning to his former stomping ground; the Northern Irishman parted ways with struggling Championship outfit Bolton Wanderers in March.

And Brown insisted that Lennon was “exceptional” for both the club and him personally during the 44-year-old’s last managerial stint at Celtic Park.

“He [Lennon] knows the club”, he was quoted as saying by the Herald Scotland.

“He has been here for a long time both as a player and as a manager. He was exceptional here the last time and he was great for me as well.

“But for me talk about who the board should look at is not right.”

Lennon guided Celtic to three Scottish Premiership titles and two Scottish Cups during his last spell at the club between 2010 and 2014.
