Celtic youngster Kieran Tierney has credited Ronny Deila for showing faith in him this season and playing him in big games for the club.

After a slow start to the campaign, the 18-year-old full-back became the one of the most important members of the Celtic squad and has been the first choice left-back at Parkhead.

His performances for the Scottish champions have earned him a nomination for Scotland’s Young Player of the Year, and the youngster has already won the same award at Celtic this season.

Tierney admits that he never imagined that he would become a regular in the Celtic first eleven this season, and is grateful towards outgoing manager Deila, who took the gamble to play him in big games.

The full-back said in a press conference: “It has been a mad year for me, but I'm delighted! Amazing to be nominated, I've just won Young Player of the Year for Celtic so this is fantastic.

“I thought I would be in and out the first team, just play in cup games, but the manager showed faith in me.

“The games he has put me in, big games, all credit to him to trust a young Bhoy.”

Tierney has clocked up 30 appearances for the Bhoys this season and he also made his debut for the Scottish national team last month in a 1-0 friendly win over Denmark.
