Erik Sviatchenko, who joined Celtic in the winter transfer window from Danish side FC Midtjylland, has donated 10,000 Danish Kroner to the club's fan group.

The defender wanted to give something back to Midtjylland's fans, who backed him through thick and thin for a decade, and has been dubbed "super cool" for making the donation.

Sviatchenko, whose donation comes to just above £1,000, told his former club's official site: "The club have been in my heart for ten years and the fans have always been there for me. Therefore, I would like to give a little back, which they can use to create a great atmosphere for my old team-mates and the other fans who come to the stadium."

The centre-back has quickly established himself at his new club Celtic, but has not forgotten the path which took him to the Scottish champions.

And Sviatchenko explained that he always tried to talk as much as possible to the Midtjylland fans and felt a close bond with the supporters.

"I've always had the fans' support and I deliberately chose to enter into a dialogue with them, and thus I actually felt we were much closer than other fan/player relationships", he added.

The Danish club's supporter group is known as the Black Wolves and its chairman Thomas Mikkelsen is hugely grateful to Svitachenko for his donation.

"It's super cool of Erik", he explained.

"He's a good guy and I think we all hope to see him back at FC Midtjylland when he's finished abroad.

"We have followed Erik since he was a young lad at the academy", Mikkelsen added.
