Newcastle United have announced that their request for extra tickets for the season's penultimate game, away at Aston Villa, has been refused, despite a fan stating Villa have 13,000 empty seats.

Villa Park holds 42,682 fans and Newcastle's trip to the ground on 7th May could prove crucial to their hopes of remaining in the Premier League this season.

Aston Villa have already been relegated and a Newcastle fan, claiming that the Midlands club have 13,000 spare seats for the fixture, suggested the Magpies should ask for an increased allocation.

Newcastle, in reply, confirmed they have asked for more seats, but Villa have declined their request.

The fan wrote on Twitter: "I've heard they've got 13k empty seats…ask for more."

And Newcastle replied: "Hi Mick, we have asked for more seats at Villa Park but have been declined unfortunately. Our apologies."

Aston Villa, who are currently in the grip of a crisis following off the pitch resignations and fan protests, have collected just 16 points from 35 games this season, to leave them stuck to the bottom of the Premier League.

Newcastle sit second bottom, with 30 points from 35 games.
