Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels has requested the club negotiate his transfer with Bayern Munich, according to German magazine Sport Bild, in what will be a big blow to his Premier League suitors.

The defender’s contract with BVB is set to expire at the end of next season, and it is looking highly unlikely that he will sign a new deal, which is expected to pave the way towards his exit from the club this summer.

Manchester United tried and failed to sign the defender last year and are expected to try their luck again this time around, with Arsenal and Liverpool also reported to be eyeing him, but it seems the Germany international could be on his way to Bayern Munich.

Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke opened up about the possibility of Hummels joining Bayern Munich earlier this week, and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge confirmed yesterday that they are in talks to sign the defender.

And it has been claimed that Hummels has already asked Dortmund to negotiate a summer transfer move for him with Bayern Munich, indicating that he has already made a decision about his future.

There are also suggestions that Dortmund are expected to release a statement regarding Hummels’ future in the next few days.

A product of the Bayern Munich academy, who joined Dortmund in 2008, Hummels is believed to be on his way back to his childhood club, and his other suitors are expected to be disappointed as he looks to remain in Germany.
