Liverpool are a potential summer destination for defender Neven Subotic, who is expected to follow Mats Hummels out of the Borussia Dortmund exit door when the transfer window swings back open.

Dortmund anticipate losing Hummels, who has just a year left on his contract, to his former club Bayern Munich. But the defensive damage could be much greater as Subotic is also tipped to leave.

And according to German sports paper RevierSport, Liverpool are the most likely destination for the centre-back.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp, whom Subotic played under at Borussia Dortmund, is a big admirer of the defender and could add him to another defensive signing from Germany, already done and dusted, in the shape of Schalke's Joel Matip.

Hamburg have tested the water for Subotic, but the track has gone cold of late, leaving Liverpool in pole position.
