Barcelona have hinted that Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who has been linked with Liverpool and Manchester City, could be on his way out by identifying Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno as a possible replacement.

Ter Stegen is not content with being second choice to Claudio Bravo at Barcelona and is considering his options in the summer, as he feel he has reached an age where he should be playing week-in-week-out for his development.

Incoming Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola wants to take the German to the Etihad in the summer and there is speculation that Liverpool are also interested in signing the shot-stopper.

While the Catalan giants are unwilling to sell the player, they appear to realise that they could lose Ter Stegen in the summer, and have scoured the market for a replacement in case they fail to convince the 23-year-old to continue.

And according to Spanish daily Marca, the club have identified another German in Leverkusen goalkeeper Leno as a potential replacement for Ter Stegen, should he decide to pack his bags at the Camp Nou.

Leno has a buyout clause of €16.25m in his contract, but it will expire at the end of this month and Leverkusen are expected to ask for double the value of the figure.

Tottenham are interested in the German too, but Leno is unlikely to agree to play second fiddle to Hugo Lloris at White Hart Lane and Barcelona are confident that they will be able to convince him to join the club to compete with Bravo for the number one jersey.

The 24-year-old has made 222 appearances for Leverkusen until now and has little more than two years left on his contract.
