Manchester City have put an improved bid on Borussia Dortmund’s table for German midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, who has also been linked with Liverpool.

The midfielder will have only one year left on his contract with Dortmund this summer, and there are suggestions that he could finally be on his way out of the Westfalenstadion, with interest from England strong.

The 25-year-old has been linked with Liverpool, but Manchester City are in pole position and there were suggestions that the club had already tabled a €18m offer for the midfielder, though it seems Dortmund might have rejected the bid.

However, Manchester City are determined to make Gundogan part of Pep Guardiola’s side next season, and according to German magazine Sport Bild, the English giants have tabled another offer worth €27m.

The club are ready to pay €22m up front to take the midfielder to the Etihad this summer and fork out another €5m in bonuses based on his performances in England.

But it seems Manchester City might have to improve their bid further for Gundogan as, while Dortmund are willing to sell him, the Germans want €25m up front, plus additional payments.

Gundogan was linked with a move away from Dortmund last summer too, but he signed a new two-year contract to postpone the speculation for one more year.

He has clocked up 157 appearances for Dortmund to date and has earned 16 international caps for Germany.
