Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson is certain that the Reds will sell Christian Benteke in the summer.

The Belgian international was signed by Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp’s predecessor Brendan Rodgers from Aston Villa for £32.5m in the summer.

Despite being such a big money signing, Benteke has struggled for game time since the German took charge of the club in October, with Rodgers being sacked following a Merseyside derby draw with Everton.

The 25-year-old, who picked up an injury in early April, returned to action last night when he came on as a late substitute in the 1-0 loss to Villarreal in the Europa League semi-final first leg.

And Lawrenson believes Benteke’s days at Anfield are numbered as he feels the forward is just not suited to Klopp’s playing style.

The 58-year-old went on to add that there will be no dearth of suitors for Benteke, who has made just five starts in all competitions since the end of December.

“I think somebody will definitely take a chance on Benteke”, Lawrenson told BBC Radio 5 live.

“I think he will be sold in the summer I’ve no doubt about that whatsoever.

“He’s just not the kind of player that Klopp wants in his team. It really is that simple.

“I don’t think there’s any personality clash, it’s just about how he is as a player and he isn’t going to change now.

“He’s not what Klopp wants. I think there will be a host of clubs wanting to take Benteke, I don’t think that will be a problem at all.”

Benteke has thus far scored eight goals and provided five assists in 36 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool.
