Leeds United head coach Steve Evans has told Whites fans to put the kettle on and watch Chris Wood tear apart Championship defences next season.

Despite missing a penalty against Hull City last weekend, the New Zealand international has made an impact since returning from a lengthy hamstring injury last month and is the club’s top goalscorer this season with 12 goals in the Championship.

Wood’s struggles with injury at the start of the year were frustrating for Evans, but the Leeds boss has always maintained that the forward will become a big player for the club and could even lead the Whites to the Premier League.

And the Scot is confident that if the New Zealander can remain relatively injury free next season and maintain his shape, he will score a bucketful of goals for Leeds up front.

Evans told LUTV: “Chris Wood for me is a stunning striker in the Championship, stunning.

“He's 20, 25 goals next season staying fit – put the kettle on because it will happen.”

Leeds will host already relegated Charlton Athletic at Elland Road tomorrow in their last home game of the season and will be looking for a win to maintain their hopes of finishing in the top ten.
