Matteo Darmian has backed countryman Antonio Conte to be a success at Chelsea.

Conte is taking over as Chelsea boss following the conclusion of Italy's involvement at Euro 2016 this summer and Darmian, who plays under the former Juventus boss for the Azzurri, has seen him work at close quarters.

And the Manchester United right-back feels that Conte has what it takes to succeed at Stamford Bridge.

Darmian also believes that the tactical ideas Conte has, which have often seen him deploy a 3-5-2 formation, can work in the Premier League.

The defender said on TMW Radio: "He can do well.

"I know how much passion and determination he puts into his work.

"He has ideas of how to play and tactics that he can use in England too."

Darmian will lock horns with Conte's Chelsea team next season when he looks to build on a promising first season at Old Trafford with Manchester United.

The 26-year-old was snapped up by Manchester United from Italian Serie A side Torino last summer.

Darmian has won 21 caps for Italy since making his debut for the Azzurri in 2014.
