Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld admits that he is pleased that he has managed to remain consistent in back-to-back seasons in England.

The Belgian defender joined Tottenham from Atletico Madrid last summer in a protracted transfer and has been one of the best defenders in the Premier League in the 2015/16 campaign; he spent last term on loan at Southampton.

Alderweireld’s assured performances at the back have played a major role in Tottenham having the meanest defence in the English top division this term, and he also didn’t allow the mid-season injury to Jan Vertonghen affect the team by forming another formidable centre back partnership with Kevin Wimmer.

The defender has remained modest despite garnering great credit for his performances and admits that he is just happy that he has managed to put together two good seasons in a row in the Premier League.

While speaking to Belgian daily Het Laatste Nieuws, Alderweireld said: “If I am being honest I feel I don’t need any acknowledgment [for my performances].

“It’s nice to know that they are painting a good picture of you, it makes you feel good, but I don’t want to stop here.

“I am especially happy that I have played two good seasons in a row in England; it is something I am proud of.”

The defender has made 46 appearances for Spurs this season, and is also a big part of the Belgium national team, with already 48 international caps to his name.
