Former Totttenham Hotspur and Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood believes Arsene Wenger should decide when he leaves Arsenal.

The Frenchman has seen a number of Arsenal fans turn against him this season and during today's 1-0 win over Norwich City, banners were held calling for Wenger to leave the club.

Wenger chose not to sign a single outfield player last summer, making Arsenal the only club out of Europe's top five leagues not to do so, and he has paid the price as a golden opportunity to win the Premier League title has slipped through his fingers.

Arsenal also exited the Champions League at the last 16 stage and were knocked out of the FA Cup this season, something which has given further ammunition to those who feel Wenger's best days are behind him.

But Sherwood thinks Wenger has done so much for Arsenal that it should be up to him to decide when he stands down as manager.

After the Norwich game, Sherwood said on Sky Sports 1: "No [I don’t see him going]. Not unless it's on Arsene Wenger's terms.

"I think if Arsene Wenger decides he's had enough and wants a new challenge, to move upstairs and oversee everything, which he's doing at the moment, but he's also managing on the pitch.

"I can't see them making a change.

"I think he's earned the right to stay there.

"He's been there 20 years. He's been magnificent for that football club and it's up to him when he wants to leave."

Arsenal are looking at the prospect of finishing behind their north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur this season, the first time such a thing will have happened since Wenger took charge of the Gunners.

However, the win over Norwich did cut the gap to second placed Tottenham to just two points, though Spurs have a game in hand.
