Leeds United legend Eddie Gray feels that the players the Whites have sold in recent years are better than those still remaining at the club.

The Yorkshire giants have seen a number of stars depart in recent seasons, with Robert Snodgrass sold to Norwich City in 2012, Luciano Becchio departing for the same club in 2013, Tom Lees linking up with Sheffield Wednesday in 2014, while Ross McCormack joined Fulham the same year. In early 2016, Sam Byram left for West Ham.

Leeds have continued to toil in the Championship and lost 2-1 at home on Saturday to Charlton Athletic, their final game at Elland Road this term.

The Whites are eyeing another summer rebuilding job as they look to do what they have consistently failed to do in recent years, push for promotion to the Premier League.

Gray believes Leeds need quality players who are ready to go straight into the side. And the Scot laid out the scale of the issue by claiming those players Leeds have sold are better than those who have remained at Elland Road.

"The players that have left this club in recent years are better than those here now", he explained on LUTV following the defeat to Charlton.

And Gray feels Leeds desperately need to keep their best players in the summer, though he is unsure whether striker Mirco Antenucci wants to stay.

"There will be some players not here next season, that's for sure.

"The thing about it is you hope the players you want to stay, stay.

"I think Antenucci is a good player, but whether he is at the stage of his career where he wants to go back home, I don't know."
