Mark Warburton has insisted that he is “not surprised” by Aberdeen defender Shay Logan’s claims that Rangers will find life difficult in the Scottish Premiership next season.

The Gers secured the Scottish Championship earlier in the month and will return to the top flight for the first time since they had to start in the fourth tier following their liquidation in 2012.

And Logan commented that owing to the vast difference in quality between the Scottish Premiership and the Scottish Championship, playing in the top tier will be a culture shock for Rangers.

But Warburton explained that Logan’s claims did not come as a surprise to him, having worked with the defender previously at Brentford.

The 53-year-old then went on to congratulate Logan on securing a new two-year deal with Aberdeen.

“Tell Shay I’ve worked with him at Brentford, [so] I’m not surprised by that comment”, Warburton said in his pre-St. Mirren press conference.

“And Shay will know what I mean.

"I’m delighted for Shay, he got his new two-year contract, and he’s a talented boy.

"I like him and wish him all the best.”

Rangers, who will conclude their league campaign with an away fixture at Livingston tomorrow, will face Hibernian in the Scottish Cup final at Hampden on 21st May.
