Chelsea winger Eden Hazard believes that based on this season’s performances his brother Thorgan Hazard deserves a place in the Belgium squad for the European Championship more than he does.

Eden made a clean sweep of the Player of the Year awards in England last season on the back of Chelsea winning the league title, but this season both the Blues and the winger have heavily underperformed and the club are expected to finish outside the European spots.

On the other hand Thorgan, his brother and a former Chelsea player, has been in good form in Germany with Borussia Monchengladbach, and many feel he has more or less outperformed his older brother.

The Chelsea winger believes his brother should be in the Belgium squad for this summer’s European Championship as he has already proven that he can perform in a top league outside his own county.

And he feels based on their performances during the season, Thorgan is the more deserving candidate than himself to travel to France this summer.

The Chelsea star was quoted as saying by Belgian broadcaster RTBF: “On the season he had, Thorgan deserves a place at the Euros.

“We already knew what he did at Zulte Waregem in Belgium, now we know what he can provide abroad. If I was the manager, of course I would take him to the Euros.

“We’ll see what happens, but given the season, he perhaps deserves a place more than me; I hope we will go together.”

Thorgan initially joined Monchengladbach on loan from Chelsea in 2014, and the move was made permanent last summer.

He earned his only cap for Belgium in May 2013 in a 4-2 win over the USA.
