Rangers boss Mark Warburton has insisted that Martyn Waghorn will play 75 minutes against Tottenham Hotspur in a friendly game on 11th May as he feels the striker has a chance of starting in the Scottish Cup final later in the month.

Waghorn, who returned to action in the 2-2 draw with St. Mirren in the Gers' final Scottish Championship fixture of the season yesterday, had been sidelined since picking up a knee injury in February.

The 26-year-old has been in superb form since joining Rangers from Wigan Athletic on a three-year deal last summer, with the forward scoring 28 goals and providing eight assists in 34 appearances in all competitions.

Waghorn, who played an hour at the Paisley 2021 Stadium, was also named Rangers’ Players’ Player of the Season last month.

And Warburton explained that he now wants Waghorn to increase his game time against Spurs as he prepares to include the former Wigan man in the starting line-up against Hibernian in the Scottish Cup final at Hampden on 21st May.

"It is all credit to him and the physios for the work that has been done. Martyn has come back, is fit, hungry, sharp and you can see that he want to play”, the manager was quoted as saying by the Herald Scotland.

“We are delighted to get an hour out of him, he will play 75 minutes in the next game and will be ready for the final.

“He has a chance of starting. He has worked hard and looked really fit.

“He looked as if he hadn’t been away. There was no rustiness to speak of on a difficult surface and I thought he was very good.

“So as I said he will play 75 minutes in the next game. He has made a good case for selection."
