Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Danny Murphy feels Spurs lost control of their emotions during their 2-2 draw with Chelsea in a crucial Premier League fixture last night.

The White Hart Lane outfit needed to win at Stamford Bridge to keep their slim chances of winning the Premier League title alive, and it looked as if Mauricio Pochettino’s team were heading in the right direction when they raced to a 2-0 lead before half-time.

But Tottenham succumbed to the pressure and lost the plot after the break as Chelsea managed to claw their way back into the match and make it 2-2, with as many as nine Spurs getting booked in the crunch game.

And Murphy, who explained that even Pochettino looked agitated at times on the sidelines, insisted that it was “unacceptable” for Tottenham to have so many players booked in a match.

"Spurs didn't lose the title tonight, they played well for large periods”, he said on the BBC’s Match of the Day.

“I don't mind fire in the bellies but the longer the game went on it became a hindrance.

"They were showing too much emotion, even the manager on the sidelines at times.

“It was an enormous game, it is unacceptable to have nine players booked in one game."

Tottenham remained second in the standings and will face Southampton and Newcastle United respectively in their remaining two games of the season.
