Liverpool defensive midfielder Emre Can returned to training this week earlier than expected, according to ITV.

The Germany international, who sprained his ankle ligaments in the 4-3 win over Borussia Dortmund in a Europa League quarter-final second leg clash on 14th April, was expected to be sidelined for about a month.

But after wearing protective boots and using crutches for a couple of weeks, Can returned to Liverpool training yesterday.

The 22-year-old trained with his team-mates who did not start in the 3-1 loss to Swansea City in a Premier League fixture at the weekend.

However, Liverpool are yet to decide whether Can will feature in the Europa League semi-final second leg meeting with Villarreal at Anfield on Thursday; the Reds lost the first leg 1-0 in Spain last week.
