Martyn Waghorn has admitted that although he is expecting Rangers’ Scottish Premiership campaign to be tough next season, he feels there is not a big gap between his side and the top flight teams.

The Gers, who won the Scottish Championship and the Challenge Cup last season, will return to the Scottish Premiership for the first time since they had to start in the fourth tier following their liquidation in 2012.

Even though Rangers were knocked out of the Scottish League Cup by Scottish Premiership outfit St. Johnstone, Mark Warburton’s charges have fared well against top flights teams in the Scottish Cup in the present campaign.

Rangers beat Kilmarnock and Dundee in the domestic competition before edging out their arch-rivals and Scottish champions Celtic on penalties in the semi-final on 17th April at Hampden.

And Waghorn, who has been pleased with Rangers’ performances against Scottish Premiership teams this season, however, thinks life will not be easy for his side in the top flight next season.

“However, the teams that we have played this season haven’t been a big gap between us.

"The standard has been good and has been competitive and high.

“Teams are going to make it difficult for us no matter where we are going to go, but it’s about how we manage it and about how we play and what we do.”
