Belgium number one Thibaut Courtois has insisted that he will remain a Chelsea goalkeeper at the start of the new season.

Chelsea have struggled this season to find any sort of the momentum from the start and the team that won the league last year, are set to finish the campaign outside the European spots this term.

And there were suggestions that some of the stars could leave the club at the end of the season, with Courtois saying earlier this year he is not sure whether he will be at Chelsea beyond the summer.

However, the goalkeeper has backtracked from those comments and indicated that he was misinterpreted, adding that he will definitely start the new campaign at Stamford Bridge.

The Chelsea goalkeeper told Belgian outlet Sporza: “If the club are not playing well, the papers are always filled with [stories] of the players from that team.

“I have never said anything like that; at the moment I am still a Chelsea player and I am preparing for next season.

“I will also start [next season] at Chelsea.”

Courtois, who has made 67 appearances for the Blues since becoming the club’s number one last year, is expected to remain in goal for them under incoming manager Antonio Conte’s tutelage next season too.

He has a contract until 2019 with the club.
