Rangers defender Danny Wilson thinks his side should do okay in the Scottish Premiership next season.

The Gers, who won the Scottish Championship and the Challenge Cup, will return to the top flight for the first time since they had to start in the fourth tier following their liquidation in 2012.

Mark Warburton’s team have done well against Scottish Premiership sides in cup competitions in the present campaign.

Although Rangers were knocked out of the Scottish League Cup by St. Johnstone in September, the Ibrox outfit defeated Kilmarnock, Dundee and Celtic to reach the final of the Scottish Cup, where they will face fellow Scottish Championship team Hibernian on 21st May.

And Wilson, who still thinks there is a gap between Rangers and the Scottish Premiership clubs, however, is hopeful about his side enjoying a good 2016/17 campaign if they plan and prepare well for it.

“We have the cup final to look forward to now, so hopefully we can end on a high before looking ahead to next season”, he was quoted as saying by Rangers’ official site.

“With the step up in league, there will obviously be a step-up in the quality of opposition player.

“With ourselves and Hibs both getting to the Scottish Cup final however, it shows there is not too much of a gap there for us to make up.

“There is a gap, of course, and we will need to make that up against the better players we will be playing against week-in, week-out next year and be ready for.

“We have had a couple of games against teams from the top league in our cup run, and fared fairly well against them.

“We should be OK once we go up, but over the course of a season is a lot different from individual cup ties.

“We always try to prepare ourselves as best as we can, and I’m sure if we do that again going into next season we’ll do well.

“We’ll put plans in place, work hard, do what we do and hopefully have a good season.”

Rangers, who have failed to win any of their four league games since their triumph in the Old Firm derby on 17th April, will next face Tottenham Hotspur in a friendly on 11th May to prepare for the Scottish Cup final.
