Manchester United are ready to pay a hefty transfer fee to snare France forward Antoine Griezmann away from Atletico Madrid in the summer, according to Spanish daily El Confidencial.

The 25-year-old forward, who joined the club from Real Sociedad in 2014, came under renewed spotlight last night when his goal proved to be decisive as Atletico Madrid beat Bayern Munich on away goals to move on to the Champions League final.

The French forward’s future at the club has been the subject of speculation in recent months, but with a contract until 2020 and a release clause of €80m, Atletico Madrid have been confident of holding on to him this summer.

However, the figure in his release clause doesn’t matter to Manchester United and it has been claimed that the club are ready to pay any amount of money to lure Griezmann to Old Trafford in the summer; €80m is just €5m more than the Red Devils paid for Angel di Maria.

Regardless of the uncertainty surrounding their managerial position, the club are ready to spend big money in the upcoming transfer window to revamp their attack in order to regain their dominance in England.

And the club feel a player of Griezmann’s talent could play a big role if they can manage to snare him away from Atletico Madrid at the end of the season.

Atletico Madrid are aware that they might be powerless to stop Griezmann from leaving if a club of Manchester United’s size decide to invoke the release clause in the Frenchman’s contract in the summer.

He has scored 31 goals in all competitions for the club this season and is expected to play a big role in France’s bid to win the European Championship this summer in their homeland.
