Mark Warburton has explained that Rangers will have to wrap up their transfer activity soon in the summer because of the European Championship.

The Gers, who have won the Scottish Championship and the Challenge Cup this season, will return to the Scottish Premiership for the first time in four years.

As a result, Rangers will need to considerably improve their squad, something which Warburton admits.

Accrington Stanley duo Josh Windass and Matt Crooks will join Rangers in the summer, with the pair having already signed pre-contract agreements with the Ibrox outfit.

Livingston starlet Matthew Knox and Dundee striker Greg Stewart are also on the radar of the Scottish giants.

And Warburton, who wants to be done with the permanent signings as early as possible, espeicially with the European Championship taking place in France in the summer, feels there will be a lot of time to snap up loanees from the Premier League.

“Recruitment is everything”, he told BT Sport.

“We have a good strong squad of players, but we need to add quality, experience and depth to the squad which we will do. The work has been going on for several weeks now.

“Hopefully, you can get as many of your permanent signings in as early as possible. That is the key.

“The Premier League loans will come later. Those guys will go on tours with their respective clubs. You are looking to late July to secure any young player.

“Try and do your work as early as possible. With the Euros, the shelves will be empty much quicker so do your shopping early.

“Right now, we are getting the backing we need. We need to show that we know the market, which is very important.”
