Villarreal defender Mateo Musacchio says that his side are aiming to score against Liverpool at Anfield to strike a killer blow in the Europa League on Thursday.

The Spanish outfit scored a late winner in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final at the Madrigal last week to get their noses ahead, but Liverpool are fancying their chances at Anfield.

Musacchio has insisted that his side won’t take a step back and will be going to Anfield with a positive frame of mind, but admits that they need to defend well to come out of Merseyside with a positive result.

The defender was quoted as saying by AS: “We are going there to win.

“Scoring a goal would give us a lot of confidence and that’s our idea. We always go out with the intent of being on the front foot, but obviously we also have to defend.”

Villarreal got the same result in the first leg of their Round of 32 clash against Napoli earlier in the season, and played out a hard fought 1-1 draw in Italy to progress to the next round.

And Musacchio admits that like in Naples, his team may have to ‘suffer’ in order to get the desired result at Anfield tomorrow.

“Against Napoli we had the same result in the first leg and it turned out to be good in the return leg. We had to suffer and Anfield we will have to do the same.

“We will have to suffer before we can enjoy [victory], but the motivation is total.”
