Celtic have contacted Roy Keane over the possibility of him replacing outgoing Hoops manager Ronny Deila, according to the Herald Scotland.

Last month Celtic, who are on the brink of securing their fifth straight Scottish Premiership title, confirmed that Deila will step down from his post at the end of the season.

Several managers such as David Moyes, Brendan Rodgers, Keane, Owen Coyle and Neil Lennon have been mooted as contenders to succeed the Norwegian at Celtic Park.

But it is understood that Celtic have sounded out Keane, who is currently the assistant manager of Ireland national team.

However, the situation is complicated with Ireland boss Martin O’Neill linked with replacing Roberto Martinez at Everton.

If the former Celtic manager indeed leaves for the Toffees after the European Championship in the summer, Keane may also follow him to Goodison Park.

Another scenario could see Keane, who turned down the chance to manage Celtic two seasons ago, taking charge of Ireland, having worked with the national team since 2013.
