Juventus CEO Giuseppe Marotta has revealed that Manchester City wanted to sign Paul Pogba last summer, but insisted that the club are keen on holding on to the French star even in the next transfer window.

The 23-year-old midfielder has been one of the most sought after midfielders in world football over the last couple of years and a number of top clubs have been eyeing taking him away from the Bianconeri.

Manchester City were one of the clubs who were linked with a move for Pogba last summer, and Marotta revealed that the English giants indeed wanted to sign the Frenchman, but Juventus convinced him to ignore their offer.

Marotta was quoted as saying by Tuttosport: “Manchester City asked for Paul Pogba last year, but we told him that we didn’t want him to give in [to the temptation].”

The Juventus CEO stressed that he is aware of the level of interest of top clubs in the young midfielder and the Bianconeri have a history of selling their best players, but he indicated that the club have different plans regarding Pogba.

And he feels the time is not yet right for the club to sell the former Manchester United man.

“I am not hiding that he is in great demand, like [Paulo] Dybala. They have quality, and it is normal that big European clubs are keeping an eye on them, but Juve want to keep their champion players.

“We sold [Zinedine] Zidane in the past, last year it was [Arturo] Vidal, but sometimes you have to make different choices and Pogba’s moment has not arrived yet.”
