Leeds United head coach Steve Evans believes a few quality signings in the summer will radically improve the club’s first eleven and solve their inconsistency problem.

A 4-0 win tomorrow at Preston North End would help Leeds to finish eleventh in the Championship, and Evans has admitted that his side’s inconsistent results have held them back this season.

While the Scot is not assured of remaining Leeds manager beyond the end of this month, he has already laid out plans for the summer and is confident that they don’t need a squad overhaul to turn the club into promotion challengers next term.

He believes that there is enough quality in the squad already in place, and it just needs a few more additions in the summer, which would improve the starting eleven and bring more consistency to their performances.

When asked about his plans for the summer, the Leeds boss told LUTV: “Lots of good players here; and some very good young players as well.

“The bulk of the squad is already in place and the dressing room just needs some help. Four, five or maximum six good players can come into the dressing room and cement what they have already got, which is a lot of talent.

“And that will bring consistency; when you are talking about four or six players coming in, it could be anything between 40 to 60 per cent of your starting eleven and it increases the performance level of the current group."

Evans also warned that if some of the underperformers don’t pick up their game quick enough, they could find themselves out of the first team picture next season.

“Some of them played a lot of minutes and we could not provide the help that they needed, and on the other hand some of the others have not delivered but their CVs say that they were capable.

“They need to do it quickly or they will find themselves drifting further and further away.”
