Celtic defender Erik Sviatchenko insists that Ronny Deila's decision to announce his departure recently has not affected the players, who are keen to continue doing their job.

The Norwegian confirmed that he would be stepping down as the manager of the club after his side lost to rivals Rangers in the Scottish Cup semi-final last month.

With the Premiership title race not mathematically over at the time, the timing of the announcement was questioned in some quarters.

However, responding to that very question, the 24-year-old today said that there has never been a problem on that aspect and training has been going well under their outgoing manager.

Speaking about the initial reaction, Sviatchenko said at a press conference: "It was a bit of a strange feeling when it happened but we are professionals and we are all together.

“[There] hasn’t been a problem at all.

"The manager tells us what to do on the pitch and training has been going really well."

A number of names, such as the former Hoops manager Neil Lennon and Manchester United legend Roy Keane, have been doing the rounds as far as the new Celtic manager is concerned.

The defender on his part insists that though the subject is something he has thought about, he and his team-mates are content with leaving the job to the board.

"It does strike your mind but we all have good faith in the board in finding a good replacement."
