Leeds United full-back Charlie Taylor admits that at one point he feared that he could be out for the season when he was struck down with glandular fever last year.

The 22-year-old started the season as the club’s first choice left-back and was one of the first names on the team sheet before he contracted glandular fever in October, which laid him low for more than a month.

Taylor fought back well to return to the first team squad and was again drafted into the club’s first eleven in their 1-0 loss to Queens Park Rangers at Elland Road towards the end of November.

However, the full-back admits that immediately after contracting the disease he feared that it would take a long time for him to recover and he could be out for the rest of the season because of his illness.

When asked whether he was concerned after he contracted the illness, Taylor told BBC Radio Leeds: “Yes, massively.

“Obviously I read up about it and it said that it could be up to a year and I started panicking but realistically it could be two to four months.

"By the time it would have been April and March that I would be getting back and it was the end of the season.

“But it was great to do it in six weeks and it was brilliant to be back.”

Despite the bout of illness, Taylor has remained the club’s first choice full-back and has been a consistent feature of the first eleven since his return.
