Liverpool legend Ronnie Whelan has sought to curb the enthusiasm around Jurgen Klopp’s team by saying that the club are yet to win anything this season.

The Reds marched on to the Europa League final last night after dismissing Villarreal at Anfield in the second leg of their semi-final tie, defeating the Spanish outfit with a 3-1 aggregate scoreline.

They will face defending champions Sevilla, who defeated Shakhtar Donetsk in the other semi-final tie, in the final later this month in Basel and are aware that their Champions League berth next season will be confirmed if they can win the Europa League.

Reds fans are ecstatic about the opportunity to win a European trophy at the end of an underwhelming campaign, but Whelan stressed that they have not won anything yet; therefore the giddiness is uncalled for.

And he also reminded the Liverpool fans that Klopp’s team have already lost a cup final this season, when they went down to Manchester City at Wembley in the League Cup.

The Liverpool legend said after the match on LFC TV: “Can I just say, we haven't won anything yet. Klopp hasn't won anything yet.

“He hopes to win the Europa League, he didn't win the League Cup, so we still have a bit to do.”

Liverpool will turn their attention towards the league when they host Watford at Anfield on Sunday, but they are expected to gear all their preparation towards winning the Europa League on 18th May.
