Former Netherlands goalkeeper Stanley Menzo believes PSV Eindhoven custodian Jeroen Zoet could well attract attention from Manchester United, even though he feels Newcastle United might make more sense for the shot-stopper.

A product of the PSV academy, the goalkeeper has risen through the ranks steadily to become the club’s first choice between the posts in recent seasons and has already clocked up 120 appearances for the Eindhoven outfit.

And Menzo is confident the Dutch goalkeeper is good enough to play for a big clubs in England, such as Manchester United, or even a move to Newcastle could be on the cards for Zoet.

The former Ajax man told ELF Voetbal: “Maybe he could get [to go to] Manchester United.

“However, maybe Newcastle are the best place for him to develop. It is very important to find the right environment. And also, your family must be ready."

However, the 52-year-old is also of the opinion that Zoet should wait for one more season before making a big move as often young players could misread the situation and make rash decisions on their future.

“People often make mistakes; if I was Jeroen, I would stay for one more year.

“However, until now he has always taken the right step and that shows he is aware of his career.”

Zoet also broke into the Netherlands senior squad last year and has earned three caps for his national team.
