Leicester City are interested in signing Sporting Lisbon forward Islam Slimani during the summer transfer window, following the Algerian’s impressive season in Portugal.

The Foxes won one of the unlikeliest top flight titles in history when they lifted the Premier League trophy at the King Power Stadium on Saturday, but the newly crowned English champions are already planning for the 2016/17 campaign.

With Champions League football on their calendar for next season, Claudio Ranieri is aware that he will need a bigger squad and is earmarking targets he wants to pursue this summer.

And according to Sky Italia, Sporting Lisbon forward Slimani is one of the top targets for the Italian, as he looks to strengthen his Leicester squad both in terms of numbers and quality for the 2016/17 campaign.

Slimani has been in excellent form during the 2015/16 season for Sporting Lisbon and has scored 26 league goals in 32 appearances for the club, playing a key role in a successful campaign for Jorge Jesus’ side.

His performances have attracted the attention of Ranieri and the Leicester boss is keen to take him to England once the summer transfer window opens.

Slimani has been linked with a move to England since last year, but he has so far resisted the temptation of a transfer to the Premier League.

He has 43 international caps to his name for Algeria and has a contract until 2020 with Sporting Lisbon.
