Tottenham Hotspur look set for disappointment in their interest in Villarreal attacking midfielder Denis Suarez, who is poised to return to Barcelona.

Suarez has been in impressive form for the Yellow Submarine this season and Spurs sent their head of recruitment to take a close look at the 22-year-old when Villarreal played Liverpool in the Europa League at Anfield recently.

Barcelona sold Suarez to Villarreal last summer, but ensured they inserted a buy-back clause into the agreement, should he flourish with the Yellow Submarine.

And according to Catalan daily Sport, Barcelona are activating their option and taking Suarez back to the Camp Nou.

Barcelona captured Suarez from Manchester City in 2013 and drafted the youngster into their B side.
