Chelsea could be willing to sell Diego Costa in the summer should they manage to snare Gonzalo Higuain away from Napoli, according to Spanish daily AS.

The Spain international is claimed to want to leave the club at the end of the current campaign and is aware that Atletico Madrid would be willing to welcome him back to the Calderon.

However, for the moment Chelsea seem unwilling to sell the player as they don’t have many options in the striking department who could fill Costa’s shoes for next season.

Incoming Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has his own target in mind and it has been suggested that the Italian wants to bring Napoli forward Higuain to Stamford Bridge in the summer.

Chelsea are aware that they would have to fork out a large fee if they want Higuain in west London next season, but they are willing to act on their new manager’s interest.

And it could also open the door for Costa to leave the club, as Chelsea would be more willing to sell the Spaniard if they manage to snare the Argentine forward away from Naples.

Costa has scored 35 goals in 77 games for the club since joining in 2014, and has a contract until 2019 with the Blues.
