Former Real Madrid goalkeeper Diego Lopez feels that Jose Mourinho has been wrongly portrayed to the outside world and revealed that the ex-Chelsea boss is a jovial character behind the scenes.

Mourinho signed Lopez for Real Madrid in January 2013 to provide competition for Iker Casillas and the Spaniard indeed managed to topple the club legend to become the top choice 'keeper at the Bernabeu.

Currently at AC Milan, the Spaniard has revealed his admiration for his former Real Madrid boss and believes the media have portrayed the wrong picture of the Portuguese to the general public.

He revealed that Mourinho always maintains a close relationship with his players, can crack a joke with ease and makes sure that he always stands behind his team, under any circumstances.

While speaking about Mourinho, Lopez told Spanish daily Marca: “He is a tremendously close person.

“The press has painted a misleading picture; he supports the players all the time, shares jokes, is compatible but very demanding.

“He doesn’t care about names but looks only at their work and maintains the same relationship with everyone.”

Mourinho won the league title with Real Madrid in the 2011/12 season, but left the club a year later in acrimonious circumstances, with speculation suggesting that he divided the dressing room at the Bernabeu.
