Bayern Munich legend Franz Beckenbauer has advised Mario Gotze to join Liverpool.

Gotze is out of favour at the Allianz Arena and has been tipped for a move away from Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window, with Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool leading the race.

The attacking midfielder previously worked under Klopp at Borussia Dortmund, before switching to Bayern Munich in 2013.

A number of other clubs have also been linked with Gotze, while there remains the possibility he may choose to remain at Bayern Munich and fight for his place under new coach Carlo Ancelotti.

But Beckenbauer does not believe Gotze is happy at Bayern Munich and has told him to reunite once again with Klopp.

Speaking on Sky Deutschland on Saturday, he said: "I would, in his place, go to a place where I feel comfortable.

"I have the impression that Mario has not felt right in Munich and also has not been understood, so that he could show his full potential.

"I would in his place go where I am comfortable and follow in the footsteps of Jurgen Klopp."

Gotze is under contract with Bayern Munich until the summer of 2017 and there have been no signs of the Bavarians moving to offer him an extension.
